
Ohakune Mountain Road - Overview
Experience a thrilling 1000 metre descent down one of New Zealand’s most spectacular roads, Ohakune Mountain Road.
This follows the Ohakune Mountain Road, taking you through the Tongariro National Park World Heritage Areas down to Ohakune township. On the way down, there is an opportunity to take in the sight of the Tongariro National Park's highest waterfall, the 39 metre Waitonga Falls, which is a return walking track off the Ohakune Mountain Road. Stunning views from the top and changing scenery as you descend!
Trail Length: 17km / Ride Time: 30min - 1hr (optional walking track additional 1hr 30min)

- Detailed and must do sightseeing opportunities along the trail.
- Shuttle Ohakune to Tūroa Ski Field (Trail starting point)
What you need to know:
If you plan to do the walking trail it is advised to have your own bike locks. It is a safe area but it's better to be safe than sorry!
All groups are advised to have their own puncture repair kits - It's a long walk if you get a flat tyre!!
You should also bring snacks or a packed lunch with at least 1litre of water! Remember to also bring any necessary medication.
Even if it is a hot summer's day, remember to pack an extra layer for warmth. The temperature can drop quickly in the afternoons.
