Trail Overview

Experience a thrilling 1000 metre descent down one of New Zealand’s most spectacular roads (Ohakune Mountain Road) taking you through the Tongariro National Park, UNESCO World Heritage Areas, to Ohakune township.

​On the way down, there is an opportunity to take in the sight of the Tongariro National Park's highest waterfall, the 39 metre Waitonga Falls, which is a return walking track off the Ohakune Mountain Road.
Trail Length: 17km / Ride Time: 30min - 1hr (optional walking track additional 1hr 30min)

What we do - What you need to know

We Provide: - Thorough briefing with up to date information, track condition and emergency information. - Detailed and must do sightseeing opportunities along the trail. - Shuttle Ohakune to Turoa Ski Field (Trail starting point) What you need to know: If you plan to do the walking trail it is advised to have your own bike locks. It is a safe area but better to be safe than sorry! All groups are advised to have their own puncture repair kits - It's a long walk if you get a flat tyre!! You should also bring snacks or a packed lunch with at least 1litre of water! Remember to also bring any necessary medication. Even if it is a hot summer's day, remember to pack an extra layer for warmth. The temperature can drop quickly in the afternoons.
