Trail OverviewThe Bridge to Nowhere / Mangapurua Track forms part of the Mountains to Sea Cycle Trail. It is a full day adventure and by far the best trail in the area. Offering 38km of backcountry trail riding, through one of the most remote and beautiful landscapes on the North Island. You will experience stunning views of the Whanganui National Park and the Volcanoes of Tongariro National Park Starting from the Ruatiti valley, you climb the first 5km followed by 7.5km along the ridge line to the Mangapurua trig. From here it's predominantly a downhill ride, passing Battleship Bluff and on to the famous Bridge to Nowhere. From the bridge it's another 20 minutes to the Mangapurua Landing and the Whanganui River where your jet boat will ferry you and your bikes 45mins down river to Pipiriki. The track rides like a non technical Grade 3 trail when it is dry........BUT when it is wet, it's a muddy and difficult ride and strong mountain bike skills are required.

What you need to know: This is a remote backcountry adventure trail, necessary skills and fitness are required and previous experience of similar trails and distance is highly recommended. ALL mountain bikes must be modern and well maintained with GOOD tread on the tyres. E bikes are welcome, but not city/cruiser style with thin tyres and no tread. If you turn up with in-appropriate bikes, we have a 'duty of care' not to allow you on our shuttle service. All groups MUST have their own puncture repair kits and chain breaker/spare links to suit. It's a very long walk if you break your chain!! We can supply these if needed. You need to bring a packed lunch and snacks with at least 1.5litres of water! Remember to also bring any necessary medical supplies and first aid kits as this is a very remote area! Even if it is a hot summer's day, remember to pack an extra layer for warmth. It can be a cool trip on the jet boat in the afternoons and if something doesn't quite go as planned it can take some time until assistance will be provided.
